  • Javier Aguirre Delighted With Vedat Muriqi'S Form For Mallorca In La Liga

Javier Aguirre delighted with Vedat Muriqi's form for Mallorca in La Liga

Mallorca striker Vedat Muriqi has become somewhat of a cult hero in Spain after his stunning, and somewhat surprising, run of form.

On Wednesday night, the 28-year-old Muriqi scored the winner in the 1-0 victory against Atletico Madrid in their La Liga clash played at Visit Mallorca Estadi.
The Kosovo international has now scored five goals in his last five games and sits joint-second in the La Liga goal-scorer's standings with eight goals, behind Barcelona's Robert Lewandowski on 13.
Muriqi joined Mallorca on loan last January and played a huge role in leading them to safety alongside coach Javier Aguirre.
During the summer transfer window Mallorca made his move a permanent one by signing him from Lazio for €10m.
In an interview carried by Diario AS, Aguirre was full of praise for Muriqi raving about his high work-rate overall.
"This guy landed on his feet in winter," Aguirre said.
"People love him, but it is impossible not to love that ugly scoundrel. As big as he is, he has a huge heart."
Speaking to Radioestadio, Muriqi did not deny his manager's assessment.
"Yes, well he's right. I'm very ugly. But I'm also a little bit attractive too no?"
Muriqi was asked about the war in Ukraine, having experienced war himself on Kosovo, and said: "It's very bad, people always try to give encouragement to them in Ukraine, but people can't imagine what it's like, the war in Ukraine is very bad.
"We in Kosovo already have that fear, it's crazy. The things I have seen, it's crazy, nobody should see those things, not a single human should see them, let alone children. I hope the whole world can live in peace." Muriqi added.
Mallorca will next be playing on Saturday in Copa del Rey first round action when they travel to face Club Deportivo Autol at La Manzanera.
