Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling frontrunners for 2021 SPOTY award

The England duo have produced impressive performances throughout the summer and have a chance to win Euro 2020 on Sunday night.

England's success at the European Championships means further success is on its way.
One of the major honours that any sportsman from Britain can win is Sports Personality of the Year, but it is rare for a footballer to win.

The last winner was more than a decade ago when Ryan Giggs took victory in 2009, and the last English player you have to go back to 2001 when David Beckham took the honours.

Current favourite is Three Lions captain Harry Kane at 3/1 but the big mover in the market has been England's star man Raheem Sterling - who is into 4/1.

Aside from Kane and Sterling, the favoured contenders are from a range of sports with sprinter Dina Asher-Smith rated at 6/1 ahead of her assault on the Tokyo Olympics.

Another Olympian Adam Peaty is rated at 16/1 along with Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton - who won last year, whilst Tour de France legend Mark Cavendish has come into 6/1 third favourite in the last few days following his excellent performances across the Channel.

But it is footballers who are flavour of the month and Betfair spokesperson Sam Rosbottom told us: "England pair, Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling have been backed to win Sports Personality of the year after England reached the final of Euro 2020.
"The team have captured the nation's imagination and Kane has been backed into 3/1 favourite while Raheem Sterling, who has also been heavily backed is now second favourite at 4/1."

Sports Personality of the Year odds:

Harry Kane 3/1
Raheem Sterling 4/1
Dina Asher-Smith 6/1
Mark Cavendish 6/1
Lewis Hamilton 14/1
Adam Peaty 16/1
