Girona moved back into second place in La Liga with a 3-0 win over Rayo Vallecano, who finished with 10 men at Estadi Montilivi.
Michel's side had suffered back-to-back away defeats against leaders Real Madrid and then Athletic Bilbao to dent their title ambitions.
Girona finally broke down the visitors in the 52nd minute when Viktor Tsygankov drilled home a cutback from Miguel Gutierrez.
With 15 minutes left, Rayo Vallecano were reduced to 10 men when substitute Pep Chavarria was sent off for two yellow cards in quick succession.
Savio added a late brace in stoppage time as Girona went two points ahead of Barcelona and now sit six adrift of Real Madrid.
