European champions Real Madrid splash £85m on Monaco star as second summer signing is announced

Real Madrid have confirmed the signing of French midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni from Monaco for a reported fee of £85million.

The 22-year-old was linked with a move to the Premier League as both Liverpool and Manchester United showed interest, but ultimately it was the European champions who got the deal over the line.

Tchouameni, who was also linked with Paris Saint-Germain, agreed a six-year deal with the Spanish champions and is set to undergo a medical on Tuesday.

Real Madrid statement read: "Real Madrid CF and AS Monaco have agreed on the transfer of the player Aurelien Tchouameni, who will be linked to the club for the next six seasons.

"Next Tuesday, June 14, at 12:00 at Real Madrid City, the presentation ceremony for Aurelien Tchouameni as a new Real Madrid player will take place after the corresponding medical examination. Aurelien Tchouameni will then appear before the media."
Tchouameni made 46 appearances for Monaco last season as the club sealed a top three finish for the second consecutive year.
The French international was rewarded for his individual efforts by picking up Ligue 1's young player of the year award.
As well as featuring prominently for the Monegasques, Tchouameni also cemented his place in Didier Deschamps' France squad ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The youngster is the second player to join Los Blancos this summer, following Antonio Rudiger's move from Chelsea.

With Marcelo, Isco and Gareth Bale leaving the Spanish capital upon the expiry of their contracts, Carlo Ancelotti is continuing to rebuild his side as they look to defend their domestic and continental titles.
