The last race of Wolverhampton’s Racing League meeting should be a competitive six-furlong sprint that sees a whole host of experienced handicappers fancying their chances.

Mum’s Tipple heads the weights and the betting, and although he has looked out of sorts since his impressive fourth place in the Wokingham Stakes at Royal Ascot, he should relish this return to the all-weather surface on which he won last December.

The lightly-raced second-favourite Space Cowboy won twice on artificial tracks in 2021, including over this course and distance, but he has not raced for over 500 days, so his short price holds little appeal given the potential variables in play.

Of the outsiders, Strong Power, Walking On Clouds and Good Earth appear to be favourably priced for the each-way punters among us, while Monsieur Kodi is another that appears to be on a mark that puts him in with a real chance under Cam Hardie.

All of which brings us to our best pick in the shape of Celtic Champion, who has been progressing nicely under Andrew Balding’s wing and he fulfilled his undoubted potential with a win on Salisbury’s turf just over a year ago.

He confirmed both his form and his versatility when winning impressively on Lingfield’s all-weather track in February, since when he has been well rested, reappearing just 19 days ago to earn a creditable fifth spot in a competitive15-runner handicap at Newmarket.

David Probert retains the ride and has been booked to continue this promising three-year-old’s progress for an in-form stable that has produced four winners (including an 11/1 shot), a runner-up and three thirds from their last eight runners since Monday.

Suggested bet: Celtic Champion each-way in the 20:45 at Wolverhampton
