Wolverhampton racing tip: Market leaders set to succumb to Power Of Gold

Runners and riders at Wolverhampton racecourse
This one-mile handicap looks to be set up for the market leaders, with Master Of Combat and He’s A Gentleman priced up as the main challengers to the strongly-fancied favourite Eagle Day.

However, one who can give them all a run for their money is Power Of Gold, who makes his debut for John Quinn, and is surely better than a 0-80 handicapper.
The three-year-old’s only previous handicap on this surface saw him finish a close-up fourth of 12 when racing off 82 in a much stronger 0-85 handicap over a mile at Newcastle, a race which featured eight rivals rated higher than any he faces off two pounds lower this time.

Highly tried in Class 2 at York after that (midfield in a valuable 0-100) and then tried in first-time headgear (now discarded) on his final run for previous connections, Power Of Gold retains plenty of potential in this sphere.
Freshened-up after a break, and with his new trainer very nearly winning a recent tapeta handicap with another newcomer to the yard, there must be every chance that Power Of Gold (already an easy 0-82 winner over a mile off only two pounds lower than this) can make a winning start for his new connections.
Suggested bet: Power Of Gold in the 19:30 at Wolverhampton

Just a few weeks ago, the short-priced favourite Eagle Day was beaten over this course and distance by today’s re-opposing rival, He’s A Gentleman, when in receipt of eight pounds.
However, He’s A Gentleman himself could only finish runner-up (beaten 1.5 lengths) to Light Up Our Stars over the same trip in late October, when conceding four pounds to that winner.
This time, He’s A Gentleman concedes five pounds, so if that line of form is a reliable measure, then Light Up Our Stars must be a good value bet to confirm that performance.
Next best bet: Light Up Our Stars in the 19:30 at Wolverhampton
