Wolverhampton racing tip: Course and distance winner Come On John back at last winning mark

Wolverhampton
Horse racing expert Steve Jones thinks Come On John is ready to get back to winning ways now’s dropped to a mark he can exploit on his preferred track at Wolverhampton.

The most attractive bets at the early prices are two of the four previous course and distance winners, Come On John and Crafter.
Crafter looks the right favourite on the back of a win and a second over course and distance upon returning from a break last month.
He has beaten 18 of the 19 rivals he has faced in those competitive handicaps, with the only one to beat him being the lightly-raced Ed Dunlop three-year-old, Shaheen Saqaar.
But one who can beat the favourite this time is Come On John, who is back down on his last winning mark. His latest success came in November in a handicap over this course and distance.
He beat nine rivals rated up to 60 and did so more comfortably than his three-quarter-length winning margin suggests.

That performance needs marking up too, because he missed the break and had to be settled at the back of the field in a race that was run to suit the prominent racers, who filled the next five places.
The fact that he was able to make up so much ground in a race run at a very moderate pace deserves a lot of credit and he still managed to win after being forced to wait for a run down the home straight.
A repeat of that effort would give him a good chance off the same mark and in a very similar standard of race. There’s a fair chance the pace will be stronger this time, which will enhance his chances significantly.
His last three runs have all been on the Lingfield Polytrack, which is the quickest of all the synthetic tracks.
He gave cause for encouragement on the latest of those runs in which he finished a never-nearer 5th/12 in a very competitive 0-65 despite being trapped on the rail in the early stages.
A return to this favoured Tapeta track looks like a good move, as does the booking of Robert Havlin, who won on him around this circuit earlier last year.
Suggested bet: Back Come On John to win the 19:15 at Wolverhampton
