Wolverhampton each-way racing tip (2000): Basholo lined up for strong run over preferred trip

There’s a competitive racecard to enjoy at Wolverhampton’s all-weather track on Monday night, and this five-furlong dash looks like it could well be the pick of the bunch.

The early favourite is My Turn Now, who enjoyed his maiden success at the ninth attempt over this course and distance 24 days ago, making Michael Attwater’s four-year-old the only runner boasting a last-time-out success.

He is sure to go well again under all-weather aficionado Rossa Ryan, with the main threat in his rear-view mirror likely to come from The Tron, who won over this very trip four outings ago in January and should bounce back from a sub-par display at Newcastle six days ago.

Both of those market leaders should feature prominently, but there are a few others capable of making their presence felt, and at least making a bid to make the frame, especially with four places up for grabs with several major bookies.

It’s more than a year since Kinky Boots finished third in each of his only two all-weather outings to date, so Denis Quinn’s four-year-old could be something of an unknown quantity as he returns from a seven-month break to make his handicap debut under Marco Ghiani.

Our final nod, however, goes to a more realistic prospect in the shape of Basholo, who has made the frame in three of his five outings this year, all of them at this venue, including a course-distance win in mid-January.

Stella Barclay’s five-year-old was tried over a longer six-furlong trip here last time out a fortnight ago, and was far from disgraced in coming a solid third of eight, despite jockey Zak Wheatley losing his claim for that outing.

Basholo is eased one pound here and that should marry up nicely with his rider’s reinstated five-pound claim, which bodes well for another strong bid here, albeit from a less favourable outside draw.

Suggested best bet: Basholo each-way in the 20:00 at Wolverhampton
