Wolverhampton best bets (1900): Capallcliste and Inexplicable aim to upset market leaders

After a bumper day of jumps racing, there’s no shortage of decent all-weather Flat racing to savour on Saturday evening, either, not least this top-notch one-mile handicap at Wolverhampton.

19:00 Wolverhampton: Stay Golden With BetMGM Safer Gambling Handicap (1 mile 142 yards)

The tentative early favourite is Ed Dunlop’s Angel Of Antrim, who has only won once in 16 attempts but is now four pounds below that winning mark, and should give a good account now teaming up with all-weather specialist Rossa Ryan for the first time.

Aeroplane Mode and Van Zant boast similar credentials, but there is plenty of potential for an upset further down the betting, with a couple of less obvious contenders attracting some attention within the Tipstrr community.

Capallcliste appears to have done little to get excited about in nine fruitless outings during his first year on the track, but he punched well above his weight to finish third of 11 among higher-class 0-68 company over this course and distance last time out three weeks ago.

That promising showing came under a five-pound claimer in an amateur jockeys’ affair, so in the more experienced hands of David Probert, anything approaching that level of performance should stand him in good stead against the lower-rated opposition that he faces here.

Suggested bet: Capallcliste each-way in the 19:00 at Wolverhampton

Of the outsiders, three-time course-distance winner Broughtons Flame is long overdue a return to winning ways for the Loughlane team, while Lupset Flossy Pop could be ready to exploit his claimer’s seven-pound allowance after two runner-up near misses in January, but our next-best pick is a more realistic prospect in the shape of Antony Brittain’s seven-year-old Inexplicable.

After kicking off the year with five top-three finishes, including a win over this very trip, we recommended this seven-time course-distance winner last time out 11 days ago, only to see him disappoint over a shorter trip at Newcastle.

He returns to his happier hunting ground and distance here, so we’re happy to forgive that blip and keep faith with  this proven performer, who still looks nicely treated to give another good account from a useful inside draw under Cam Hardie.

Next best bet: Inexplicable in the 19:00 at Wolverhampton
