Wolverhampton best bet: Cryptos Dream poised to improve on recent near miss

Before National Hunt’s marquee event takes centre stage at Cheltenham, there’s a full evening card at Wolverhampton all-weather track for those who prefer their horse to race without obstacles.

Early favourite Moon Over The Sea looks to tick all the right boxes after scoring over a longer trip under Rossa Ryan here in January.

He was less successful under a claiming jockey at Lingfield last month, but the return of Ryan, who boasts a 39 per cent win rate when riding favourites at this venue, looks designed to bring out his best here.

In what looks set up to be a three-horse race, Uncle Dick could be a threat if able to reproduce the form that landed him three wins on Brighton’s turf at the back end of last summer, but of greater interest is the top weight Cryptos Dream, who coincidentally also enjoyed dual success at Brighton last term.

The Jack Jones-trained five-year-old went on to win on Chelmsford’s all-weather track in November, and as a past course-distance winner, he will be looking to build on his recent progress at this venue over the winter.

He was only a neck and a head behind the winner when third in a blanket finish over a longer trip here in December, and went one better last time out, when Rossa Ryan guided him to within a length of the short-priced winning favourite.

Jockey Dylan Hogan has been aboard two winners and five each-way places in his last 11 rides, and hopes will be high that his return to the saddle will bring the best out of Cryptos Dream over this slightly shorter trip.

Suggested best bet: Cryptos Dream in the 20:00 at Wolverhampton
