Wolverhampton best bet: Spyrothedragon fired up for improvement off reduced mark

Wolverhampton racecourse
There’s some decent contests lined up on Wolverhampton’s Friday night card, and few look more competitive than this seven-furlong handicap that should give punters plenty to cheer about.

The betting market appears to be gearing us up towards a two-horse showdown between Glen Heste and Maverick Style, with all-weather specialist Rossa Ryan booked to get the best out of the former, who is still a maiden and looked a difficult ride when sixth of eight at this venue two weeks ago.

The Loughlane camp have high hopes for Birkie Boy, who looks well treated to build on a win at Brighton in October and a decent second at Kempton a fortnight ago, while Mr Tibbs looks interesting after coming third of nine as a 125/1 over this very trip last month.
Our final nod, however, goes to Katie Scott’s lightly-raced maiden, Spyrothedragon, who was allowed to do too much too soon at Newcastle last time out and unsurprisingly faded after being hampered a furlong out.
Returning jockey Sam James should hopefully have better plans in mind this time, and the three-year-old certainly has more ability in him than he has been allowed to produce in his last couple of outings.
The upshot of this is a two-pound lower mark that should align with Spyrothedragon’s capabilities to produce a decent challenge in this company.
Suggested best bet: Spyrothedragon each-way in the 18:15 at Wolverhampton
