Windsor best bet (1920): Lawn Ranger can bounce back on return to favourite venue

There’s plenty in with a shout here, but 11 of the 12 starters will have to hope that firm favourite Golden Phase has an off day, as Denis Coakley’s four-year-old has only finished outside the first three in one of her nine outings.

Her two wins this season came back-to-back earlier this summer, before being denied a hat-trick last time out at Newbury last month, when she fell just short as runner-up in a stronger contest than this.

Those two recent wins were both under Hollie Doyle, who returns here, although the fact that this filly has never won away from Bath might betray a possible chink for her rivals to exploit here.

Shalfa, Pledge Of Honour and New Dayrell all look interesting prospects at tidy odds, but it is Windsor course specialist Lawn Ranger who might pose a threat on his return to his happy hunting ground.

Michael Attwater’s experienced nine-year-old has yet to fire in three attempts so far this term, but he should relish this return to a track on which he has won five times over this very trip.

The most recent of those was on his last visit to the Berkshire track last August, when he ran on strongly in the final stages, landing the odds by a couple of lengths in similar conditions to what are expected on Monday night.

His last two wins here have both been under Robert Havlin, who is notably rebooked here for the first time since that success 11 months ago, and with four each-way places available, they certainly look decent value to at least make the frame once again.
