Wincanton racing top tip: Ilanz ready to hit the ground running for new yard on season debut

Hurdlers take flight at Wincanton
Eight runners line up for this competitive handicap hurdle, and with barely half a dozen betting points covering the entire field, it seems the winner could emerge from just about anywhere.

Indeed, a case could be made for just about every starter, with the Tanganyika wearing a vulnerable-looking favourite’s tag. He won three outings ago, albeit back in February, and hails from the in-form Venetia Williams stable, while the five-pound claim of Ned Fox won’t do any harm.
Call Of The Wild and Killaloan are barely a betting point off the market leader, with the latter looking particularly threatening for Paul Nicholls.
Planet Sport Bet's racing ambassador Harry Cobden was on board for a quick-fire hat-trick of hurdle wins in February and March, and he returns here after the five-year-old was given an early pipe-opener in a two-mile flat race in heavy ground at Bath last month.

At more tasty odds, Vision Des Flos looks capable of building on a couple of fourth-placed finishes during the summer, but it is the Syd Hosie-trained Ilanz who has attracted most attention within the Tipstrr camp, and it will certainly be interesting to see his progress since his recent move from Milton Harris’s yard.
A bumper winner on career debut, this five-year-old quickly converted that promises into back-to-back successes at Taunton and Market Rasen this time year.
Despite an inevitable hike in the weights, he continued to perform admirably over obstacles, finishing third of eight at Musselburgh on New Year’s Day, and then making the frame again when last seen at Uttoxeter in February.
Much will depend on how he has progressed during his nine-month absence from the track, as well as his move to new surroundings, although Hosie’s recent record at Wincanton bodes well for a decent run here, even though Ilanz is still 10 pounds above his last winning mark.
