Wetherby each-way tip: Jewel Maker can split market leaders under low weight

Tuesday’s racing action concludes with this fascinating 10-furlong handicap that should give race-goers plenty to talk about as they wind their way home.

21:00 Wetherby: Kelling Group Specialist Hire Experts Apprentice Handicap  (1 mile 2 furlongs)

There’s a strong case to be made for the three market leaders Laser Focus, Life On The Rocks and Chilled Out, all of whom are looking to complete quickfire hat-tricks after enjoying back-to-back successes at various venues in late May and early June.

Only one of them can achieve that, of course, which puts a question mark over their collective short prices, and adds extra value to their five rivals, who could be ready to squeeze into the frame should any or all of the principals falter.

Of those double-digit-priced candidates, V Twelve’s only Flat win came at Windsor in October 2022, but he did register a hurdle success at this track as recently as March this year, and although a well-held fifth of seven on his one subsequent outing on the Flat at Thirsk, the five-year-old could make his presence known.

Just about getting our each-way nod, however, is bottom-weight Jewel Maker, who was a 4¾-length third of four behind reopposing Chilled out at Ripon 12 days ago.

Suggested best bet: Jewel Maker each-way in the 21:00 at Wetherby

Tim Easterby’s nine-year-old is no stranger to the winner’s enclosure, with the most recent of his eight career victories coming on Newcastle’s all-weather track four outings ago last November.

His last turf success came over this distance at Redcar last August when the going was good-to-firm, so he should feel more comfortable on Wetherby’s improving good ground, while Alex Fielding’s eight-pound claim could prove significant if he can keep Jewel Maker in touch when the serious racing begins.
