Wetherby each-way tip: Moro Rock set to improve after quick turnaround

Wetherby racecourse
The final race on Wetherby’s Thursday afternoon card offers enough betting options right through the 10-strong field to satisfy serious bettors and each-way punters alike.

Only one starter arrives with a last-time-out success under his belt, so it’s not surprising to see Tom Lacey’s Tune In A Box installed as the firm favourite after he forged clear to win by just shy of 10 lengths on handicap debut at Newcastle in November.
His subsequent nine-pound hike should not impede his progress too much, but it does close the handicap gap to his nearest market rivals, not least Colonel Whizz, who has been shaping up as if a stayer in some promising early outings, and has consequently been stepped up significantly in trip for his handicap debut.

With the betting pretty much split in two, there appears to be plenty of each-way value from those in the bottom half, with You Say It’s Over an interesting prospect under Brian Hughes, who has guided Micky Hammond’s six-year-old to three consecutive runner-up spots since November, and should be in the mix again in first-time cheekpieces.
Causing the biggest stir among Tipstrr’s each-way specialists, however, is the seven-year-old Moro Rock, who has been a modest performer up to now, but who takes on this course and distance for the second time in quick succession after his first long-distance attempt here just 12 days ago.
This relatively quick turnaround suggests that his connections might have viewed his fifth-of-11 finish as something of a pipe-opener following a five-month break, and he certainly was far from disgraced after having to wait for a gap on the home turn and never able to get on terms with the leaders.
- Suggested best bet: Moro Rock each-way in the 16:10 at Wetherby
For the first time he will be piloted by Jamie Hamilton, who arrives fresh from landing a 12/1 winner for Mark Walford at Catterick on Wednesday, and looks well equipped to help Moro Rock up his game here.
The small string of trainer Sara Ender has not produced a winner in a while, but with four places available in some quarters, a sharper performance from her gelding here could see him out-run his double-digit odds.
