Warwick each-way racing tip: Time To Tinker looking to defy outsider odds

Our friends at Tipstrr continue to work tirelessly through their weekend to bring us their best-backed selections, this time a big-priced outsider from Warwick’s evening meeting over the sticks.

19:35 Warwick:  Valley Green Finger Handicap Hurdle (3 miles 1 furlong)

The withdrawal of the Skelton yard's strongly-fancied Chatty Chich has tightened up the top end of the betting, with Sister Michael, Wavering Down and Land Genie expected to fight out a three-horse race.

It has also affected our planned each-way prospects, with the reduced seven-strong field now only offering two places, but that hasn't stopped Tipstrr's pundits from eyeing up a couple of outsiders, albeit now with diminished value.

Top-weighted Nickelsonthedime might have too much for his 10-year-old legs to lug around here, but he alternated wins with each-way places for much of his 2023 campaign.

If his pulled-up effort on season debut can be overlooked as a pipe-opener, then this course-distance winner could perform much better with his usual cheekpieces reapplied after being discarded last time.

Tipstrr’s final tentative nod goes to Gary Hanmer’s clearly capable but frustratingly inconsistent, Time To Tinker, whose recent struggles are epitomised by being pulled up five times in his last seven starts.

Suggested best bet: Time To Tinker in the 19:35 at Warwick

However, they have all been when the going has been on the soft side, so it’s caught the eye of some of Tipstrr’s punters that this is the first time that the nine-year-old will hear his hooves hitting the turf since landing back-to-back wins on good-to-firm and good ground at Taunton and Wincanton respectively in the autumn of 2021.

With his weights dropping in proportion to his recent performances, Time To Tinker is now carrying 21 pounds less than his last winning mark, which could be a telling factor if jockey James Davies can manage to coax him all the way round.

Hanmer does not send a prolific number to post, but it’s worth noting that on Thursday his only runner, Fandabidozi won at Stratford at 14/1, and Time To Tinker is his only representative at Warwick, where the trainer boasts an impressive 25 percent win rate (10 winners and seven places from 40 runners).
