Warwick best bets: Harry Cobden to bring Flemen’s Tipple home, market mover Head On worth a look

Champion jockey and PlanetSportBet ambassador Harry Cobden heads to Warwick for two fancied rides on Thursday evening, and this three-mile chase offers arguably the better value prospect.

19:40 Warwick:  Bromwich Hardy Handicap Chase  (3 miles)

With eight wins already under his belt and a 50 percent place rate across his 38 rides so far, Cobden is making a steady early defence of his crown, and he looks to have another good chance here aboard Andy Irvine’s seven-year-old, Flemen’s Tipple.

Suggested best bet: Flemen’s Tipple in the 19:40 at Warwick

This versatile gelding suffered a handful of runner-up near misses over hurdles last year, but finally broke his duck when teamed up with Cobden last time out, easing a couple of lengths clear of half a dozen rivals in a 0-100 handicap chase at Huntingdon three weeks ago.

That performance over fences promptly earned him a six-pound penalty, but the manner of his success suggests that the handicapper has not quite caught up with Flemen’s Tipple just yet, and it would be no surprise to see Cobden adding another win to his tally here.

Flemen’s Tipple is one of  three market leaders covered by barely a single betting point, and should one or more of them falter, then there is some decent each-way value to found among their capable less-fancied rivals.

Of those, the Ian Williams-trained Head On opened at 33/1 on Wednesday night and was still available at 14/1 across the board when betting re-opened this morning, but that price has been slashed to single digits in a flurry of morning market activity.

In fairness, he appears to have done little recently to justify that support, having pulled up three times in six outings since returning last October from a lengthy 18-month break.

That said, when race-fit he strung three tasty wins together in stronger company in the summer of 2021, one of which came at this venue, and now racing off a much lower mark, it could be a good time to be on him while he is given time to rekindle former glories.

Each-way punt: Head On in the 19:40 at Warwick
