Southwell racing tip (1900): Back Liseo to strike over perfect distance

The 19:00 and 20:30 at Southwell are the pick of the bunch from Wednesday’s evening meeting at Southwell.

A total of 12 runners go to post with Ayyab narrowly topping the market at the time of writing ahead of Isle of Sark.

S.P.C Woods’s runner is a distance winner who got off the mark at Kempton in October and although he didn’t follow that up in November, he gave a good account at Lingfield.

Isle of Sark was a beaten favourite last time out and has received some backing again here, but he hasn’t been in the winner's enclosure since his debut in 2020.

The six-year-old has struck the post several times including his most recent outing when beaten by a nose.

He’ll be ridden by Saffie Osborne who has a fantastic 35% strike rate on favourites and typically goes well at Southwell, with 21 places from 57 runs there.

Ross Coakley rode Liseo to victory at Kempton in January and gets back in the saddle today.

His last outing which was also at Kempton was largely positive until the home stretch. He faded in the final furlongs and will benefit from dropping down in trip.

Simon and Ed Crisford have a strong record on the all-weather both long-term and this season, and they’re handy at producing winners over this distance.

Wind Your Neck In is lightly raced and hasn’t been seen since November. His last appearance at Newmarket was a winning one and he may have more to give from this mark.
