17:30 (Southwell) Saisons D’Or

Following three consecutive runner-up efforts that include a head defeat over 7f at Newcastle last time Saisons D’Or can return to winning ways in the Race By Race Southwell Specials @Planetsportbet Handicap.

Turbo Command finished ahead of the main selection that day and although slightly worse off at the weights could go close once more.

Mr Squires finished a good third tackling seven furlongs at Newcastle last start and needs to be included alongside Cubanista.

 

18:00 (Southwell) Dance And Romance

A chance should be taken on the nicely-bred newcomer Dance And Romance in the Best Odds Guaranteed At Planetsportbet Maiden Stakes.

This Ralph Beckett trained daughter of Starspangledbanner is narrowly preferred to Moon Man who shaped well tackling this trip when runner-up at Newcastle on debut.

Sioux Warrior showed some decent form in three outings as a two-year-old. Might get involved delivering seasonal reappearance.

Warriors Dream gave himself something to build on when a close-up fourth at Kempton.

 

18:30 (Southwell) Casa Luna

Casa Luna won with plenty in hand attempting this journey at Wolverhampton eight days ago. May carry a 5.5lb penalty to success in the Bet On The Grand National @Planetsportbet Handicap.

The chief danger might come from Further Measure who was a solid runner-up over 1m6f at Wolverhampton on the same card as the main selection.

A course and distance winner in a Young Endless cannot be dismissed lightly having produced another solid effort when third tackling 2m1/2f here last-time-out.

 

19:00 (Southwell) Louisiana Bay

Booking James Doyle for the in-form Louisiana Bay. The Jack Jones trained mare won over 1m4f at Lingfield and could take some stopping under a penalty in the Download The Planetsportbet App Handicap.

Damoiseau ran a good race finishing second over 1m1 1/2f at Wolverhampton earlier in the month. Impossible to ignore racing off the same mark with first-time cheekpieces an interesting addition.

The Bay Warrior is 2.2lb well-in at the weights here following a good second over course and distance twelve days ago. Molly Mischief cannot be dismissed.

 

19:30 (Southwell) Alhattan

Alhattan held excuses for a below-par second at Newcastle in February.

The George Boughey-trained filly looked classy scoring over the same course and distance on debut a month prior. Might be underestimated off this opening mark in the Read Harry Cobden's Blog At Planetsportbet Fillies' Handicap.

My Margie made a successful handicap debut at Wolverhampton in March and rates the obvious danger representing a stable in excellent form.

Another to note is Completed who might have needed the run when fifth at Wolverhampton delivering initial handicap outing.

 

20:00 (Southwell) Commander Of Life

It’s hard to argue with Prince Eric being installed as the early favourite after the three-year-old landed back-to-back successes since returning from a five-month hiatus.

Roger Varian’s Never Better leads the challenge after shaping up well to edge a 12-runner affair at Kempton six weeks ago, but the Marco-Botti-trained Commander Of Life is our most viable each-way option.

An impressive winner at the third attempt when landing a 13-runner novice stakes over six furlongs at Chelmsford last July, his solitary effort on turf at Yarmouth, where he trailed in a distance last of ten, suggested his future lies on synthetic tracks.

Joining the Botti yard over the winter, there were encouraging signs on Commander Of Life’s return from a four-month break, when he finished a creditable fifth of nine in a shorter seven-furlong handicap at this track.

He plugged on gamely in that outing with enough in the tank to suggest this longer mile trip should not be beyond him, and in the capable hands of Rossa Ryan for the first time, he should be ready to improve further here.

 

20:30 (Southwell) Reformed Character

It’s not surprising to see Specialist View and Van Zant jostling for the favourite tag after both produced decent results recently.

That said, their short prices fail to offer much appeal compared with a couple of more attractive prospects further down the betting.

Our final seal of approval goes to Martin Dunne’s eight-year-old gelding Reformed Character, who is long overdue his maiden success after 21 attempts on the Flat.

There have been plenty of near misses along the way for Reformed Character, who was barely a couple of lengths off the pace in each of his last two outings at Lingfield (third of 11 in February) and Wolverhampton, where he finished fourth of 11 last time out a month ago.

Useful claimer Grace McEntee keeps the ride and her invaluable three-pound allowance effectively brings them down to bottom weight to make them no forlorn hope of making the frame in this low-key affair.
