Southwell each-way tip (2030): Trusty Scout set to bounce back from recent setback

Southwell racecourse
Our friends at Tipstrr have been busy crunching their numbers in order to provide us with one of their most popular each-way picks from the very last race of the night at Southwell.
20:30 Southwell: BetUK: It’s Where the UK Bets Handicap (1 mile 3 furlongs)
Defence Treaty and Tables Turned are currently jostling for the favourite spot, - the former is the only course-and-distance winner in the line-up, and while the latter’s prospects are improved by the notable presence of Rossa Ryan in the cockpit, it’s hard to get excited about either at less than 5/1 odds.
Barely two betting points cover the next half-dozen in the market, of whom the John Mackie-trained Distinction has won two of his four outings since the week before Christmas, both of which were on Wolverhampton’s tapeta track, which bodes well for a bold run here if the six-year-old can overcome his three-pound rise.

Course winner Scarborough Castle could also benefit from a favourable inside draw for this drop in trip, but with four places widely available, Tipstrr’s each-way aficionados have gravitated towards Derek Shaw’s Trusty Scout.
The six-year-old had been showing decent form before finding himself poorly placed at Wolverhampton 17 days ago, so perhaps it’s safe to draw a forgiving veil over that blot on the copybook.
Prior to that, Trusty Scout had made the frame in five of his previous seven outings, including a tidy 1.25-length success at Kempton in November, when he stayed on strongly and was ridden out by returning jockey Cam Hardie to leave 11 decent rivals in his wake.
He finished a decent third of 11 at Wolverhampton ten days later, and then kicked off the new year by coming within a neck of The Bay Warrior, who just edged ahead in the final strides.
From lining up as favourite last time out, Trusty Scout’s double-digit price here appears to be something of a knee-jerk overreaction to that most recent disappointment, and while he might need a couple of the principals to falter if he is to win, he looks capable of outrunning his odds to be worth at least an each-way play to make the frame.
