Southwell each-way tip: Drop in trip to suit Mokaatil after quick turnaround

Our partners at Tipstrr have run their numbers on Monday night's penultimate race at Southwell to bring us their most widely-backed prospect in what should be a fascinating six-furlong sprint.

20:00 Southwell: BetUK Home of the Acca-Fenwa Handicap (6 furlongs)

There’s plenty in with a decent shout here, but it’s hard to imagine too many in this field finishing ahead of both two market leaders, who are vying for the favourite tag at around the 2/1 mark.

Sibyl Charm looks useful after building on two runner-up near misses to land a seven-furlong handicap at Newcastle 11 days ago, while Boafo Boy looks worth another chance after failing by a length to land the odds last time out 18 days ago.

Planet Sport Bet Daily Special: Bet £20+ cash on any runner in the race and if Boafo Boy wins by more than 1.5 lengths, get a £5 Free Bet

Masterclass should also be there or thereabouts if sufficiently recovered from his run at Wolverhampton on Saturday, but with question marks against all three market leaders over this trip, there could be better value found among the remaining half-dozen starters, all of whom are available at 10/1 or better.

Dandys Derriere certainly commands respect after backing up three wins from last year’s 11 outings with a close-up second of eight over this course and distance 18 days ago, but catching the eye of Tipstrr’s each-way specialists is bottom-weight Mokaatil.

Ian William’s experienced campaigner has gone 20 winless attempts since the summer of 2022, but he showed glimpses of former glories when third of 10 at Wolverhampton just two days ago.

Suggested best bet: Mokaatil each-way in the 20:00 at Southwell

Mokaatil has several wins over the minimum sprint distance under his belt, as well as over this six-furlong trip, so saturday’s first attempt over seven furlongs might have been something of a training experiment.

His visor was discarded for Saturday’s outing, but is reapplied here as he drops to this sharper six-furlong trip with seven pounds less to carry under Jack Enright’s useful claim.

Such a quick turnaround can work two ways, of course, especially for a nine-year-old veteran, but the positive angle is that connections would not be running him so soon if they did not believe that he has an overdue win in his locker.
