Southwell best bets (2030): Toptime and Due Date can land a blow at decent odds

A dozen runners go to post for what promises to be a fascinating final race at Southwell’s evening meeting, and it’s certainly piqued the interest of a whole host of racing pundits on Tipstrr.

20:30 Southwell: Always Gamble Responsibly With BetUK Handicap (6 furlongs)

Sassy Redhead heads the market and if William Stones’ four-year-old filly maintains her recent sequence of 21212, then she should be destined to justify her early favourite tag with a win.

Expected to run her close is Jim Goldie’s course-and-distance winner Ignac Lamar, although he has gone 13 fruitless races since that success in January last year.

Of more interest in terms of value, however, is Roy Bowring’s very capable six-year-old Toptime, who emerged from the doldrums to enjoy measurable progress at this track over the last few months.

Third of 11 over this course and distance in December, he went one better over the same trip three weeks later, and then proved he is no slouch over the minimum distance either, landing a five-furlong sprint here last time out 33 days ago.

Suggested best bet: Toptime each-way in the 20:30 at Southwell

Anyone looking for an each-way bet on an outsider has plenty to choose from, with several of those carrying double-digit odds capable of making one of the four places that are widely available here.

The Tron, Dapper Man and May Remain can all boast previous winning success at this venue, but our cautious each-way punt is aimed towards the Charlie Wallis-trained four-year-old Due Date.

Planet Sport Bet Daily Special: Bet £20+ cash on any runner in the race and if May Remain finishes in the first 3 places, get a £5 Free Bet

Although yet to experience the Southwell track, five outings since the turn of the year have yielded victories  at Chelmsford and Wolverhampton, so he clearly is no one-track pony.

If we can forgive the way he faded last time out at Kempton (a track at which he always seems to struggle) and pay more attention to his previous that produced those two wins and a handful of near misses, then his followers might just have something to cheer about down the final stretch.

Outsider punt: Due Date each-way in the 20:30 at Southwell
