Southwell best bet (1700): Billy McGarry to provide an upset

There's plenty of Easter Sunday racing action for the Tipstrr camp to get excited about and there's plenty of each-way value to be had in the penultimate contest at Southwell.

Southwell 17:00: Tips For Every Race At raceday-ready.com Handicap (Div II) (7 furlongs)

With 12 coming to post in this handicap, there should be plenty of each-way value in a highly-competitive field.

The early market leader is Brother Dave and he comes here in good form with his last four runs reading 2231.

Last time out he won over this course-and-distance, and he also finished second here back in February.

While he has strong credentials, there's plenty of value to be found elsewhere across a competitive field.

The Connor-Beasley-trained six-year-old Marcello Si has been in the first three in three of his last five, however he has struggled for consistency with a fourth and a sixth in those last five outings too.

Last time out he was beaten by four lengths, finishing second behind Medici Pass at Newcastle over the same distance, however this is his Southwell debut and other contenders have plenty of course know-how.

Jems Bond finished third over a slightly shorter trip at this course past time out, but has struggled for consistency this term and has not made a trip to the winners enclosure over the past year, with his last win coming exactly one year to this day at Newcastle.

Our selection comes in the form of Billy McGarry, who has run over this course-and-distance before but his biggest successes have come elsewhere.

At the time of writing, his odds are around 10/1, so there's plenty of each-way value to be had amongst a field of 12.

He also has winning form, when he beat the reopposing Brother Dave at Newcastle last month by half-a-length.

Tom Eaves is a solid booking, given that he was in the saddle for that Newcastle win and he also has found the first three in 25% of his 2024 outings.

For best betting value, Billy McGarry is the way to go and we already know that he has it in him to beat Brother Dave.

Suggested best bet: Billy McGarry in the 17:00 at Southwell
