Southwell afternoon racing tips: Best bets for Tuesday, November 28

Southwell racecourse

Planet Sport Bet are sponsoring the afternoon meeting at Southwell on Tuesday, November 28 and our tipsters are on hand to help you find some big winners.

Sadly recent flooding around the course has forced the venue’s organisers to limit spectator access, and has also resulted in multiple withdrawals in most of the races on the card.

But we plod on and begin with some details on our selected horses at Southwell, and we've got a full list of selections at the bottom of the page.

Don't forget to check out the full racecard, results and live odds in Planet Sport's racing live centre.

Good luck and please gamble responsibly.

(Please be aware selections could become non-runners after article's first publication)

12.40 (Southwell) Fazayte

Fazayte could still be ahead of the handicapper as he tries to bring up his hat-trick in the planetsportbet.com Handicap Chase.

Ryan Potter has mixed fences and hurdles with this eight-year-old to good effect, with Fazayte scoring over the smaller obstacles at Market Rasen in September before following up in chase company just under two weeks ago.

With winning margins of a short head and three-quarters of a length respectively, the handicapper has been restricted in his actions and Fazayte is only 8lb higher for those two victories.

13:10 (Southwell) Moroval (e/w)

This three-mile Download The Planetsportbet App Handicap Chase has survived the cull more than most, leaving Star Flyer, Eurkash and Sadler’s Bay as the bookies’ favourites to lead the charge on or around the 3/1 mark.

That apparent vulnerability at the head of the market offers a chink of light for the remaining five runners, especially given the bottomless ground that could well throw up a surprise or two from lower down the betting, and it is the rank outsider Moroval who has caught the eye.

Planet Sport Bet: Bet £20+ cash on any runner in the race and if Eurkash wins by more than 1 length, get a £5 Free Bet

Moroval returns to Southwell for the first time since his shock 100/1 victory in this race last season, and connections are hopeful for the repeat (as indeed are we!).

Tracey Leeson’s 12-year-old is far from sprightly and can easily drop himself out, making it easy for jockeys to give up on him and pull up. However, James Turner rode him perfectly a year ago, and he brings his useful seven-pound claim back to the saddle today.

After the victory his trainer said that the jockey didn’t rush him, but rather let him find his feet, and allowed his stamina to kick in on the slow ground while those around him struggled.

Moroval is undoubtedly well handicapped having postmarked a high of 114 in the past (even allowing for age deterioration), it’s just a case of whether he is in the mood and can give another good ride.

We managed to back him at 66/1 in this seven-runner race, and although that price has long gone and the reduced field has depleted place value, given the conditions and his recent history in this race, he’s still looks worth a cautious each-way play.

13:40 (Southwell) Ned Cash

Ned Cash finished fifth on debut beaten in April, but could have more to offer after a break in the Bet 10 Get 10 At Planetsportbet Open National Hunt Flat Race.

Harry Cobden's only mount at Southwell, Just Lucky Sivola, is a newcomer from the Paul Nicholls yard and is already the very skinny favourite.

Weem completes the shortlist as those with experience do not set a high standard.

14:10 (Southwell) Mountain Leopard

Mountain Leopard ran well over two and a half miles here back in May, but an extended three-mile trip in the Bet & Watch At planetsportbet.com Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle could be more to his liking.

The eight-year-old has not seen much action for a horse of his age, with this just his 11th overall start, but he seems to have a measure of ability judged on the fact he has won once and made the frame on five other occasions.

He was outpaced at the finish last time and while his previous effort over three miles and a furlong at Hereford in January yielded only a sixth place, he was staying on at the finish, so the trip did not appear to be the issue and he is actually racing off a 2lb lower mark now.

14:40 (Southwell) Telepathique

A drop in grade should help Telepathique get off the mark over the jumps in the Racing Specials Every Day At PlanetSportBet Mares’ Maiden Hurdle.

Trained by Lucy Wadham, the five-year-old looked a fair recruit last term when finishing fourth on her bumper debut before quickly adding a victory to her CV when winning at Warwick.

She did not make life easy on either start by taking a keen hold and that same eager attitude was certainly not helpful when upped to Grade Two company at Aintree, where she ran as her 100/1 starting price suggested she would.

Telepathique was again sent off at long odds for her hurdles bow at Newbury earlier in the month and while she was beaten 15 lengths by Manimole as a 50-1 shot in a better event than this, there was plenty to like about the way she stayed on after racing with much more restraint.

The Telescope filly is entitled to improve for the outing and this could be her moment to shine.

15:10 (Southwell) Duneomeno

At the time of writing just five runners remain in the depleted line-up, and if the bookies have done their calculations correctly, then the morning withdrawals have paved the way for a two-horse race between Ring Of Bearer and Ferrybridge.

The former looks likely to be sent off as favourite, but Ferrybridge arguably looks the better treated to make lighter of the testing conditions, with his ten-pound lower mark doubled by the 10-pound claim of up-and-coming jockey Jamie Gambin.

Jack’s A Legend is only a couple of points further adrift in the betting, and could well go well under Charlie Deutsch, who is in flying form after landing seven winners in his last 18 rides, albeit five of them for the red-hot yard of Venetia Williams.

Planet Sport Bet: Bet £20+ cash on any runner in the race and if Ring Of Beara wins by more than 3 lengths, get a £5 Free Bet

Should a couple of those principals falter in the testing conditions, then Duneomeno comes into the race with a few interesting factors that might work in his favour.

Although failing to build on his handicap chase debut victory in February 2022, he could prove to be something of an unknown quantity in this low-key affair as he returns to action following a 15-month break.

He has since moved on from Christian Willams’ yard and is now under the tutelage of Henry Oliver, who has immediately seen fit to revert his new seven-year-old to hurdles.

There will clearly be plenty of unknowns in play here, but it might be worth keeping an eye on his price to glean if he receives any unexpected market support.

15:40 (Southwell) Hill Of Tara

Hill OF Tara won both starts since switching to hurdles including a success by 18 lenghts last time and rates a strong chance bidding for a hat-trick in Get Emma's Offers At Planetsportbet Novices' Handicap Hurdle.

Another reduced field means Tessy Lad, a former flat winner making his debut for a new yard, is worth considering.

Southwell selections in full:

SOUTHWELL: 12.40 Fazayte, 1.10 Moroval, 1.40 Ned Cash, 2.10 Mountain Leopard, 2.40 Telepathique, 3.10 Duneomeno. 3.40 Hill Of Tara
