Redcar racing tip: Socialise poised to rub shoulders with market leaders

The horse racing action continues apace at Redcar this afternoon, and there’s plenty in with a shout of landing this tasty-looking seven-furlong sprint.

Teddy Brown looks likely to be sent off as favourite, and although fourth off 11 when last seen on Kempton’s all-weather track a month ago, he was only reeled in during the closing stages, and he was just a length off the winner.

This shorter trip should suit more, and the same could be said for his closest market rival, Howard’s Choice, who also drops in trip after being squeezed for room on the rail when seemingly poised to strike on his season turf debut at Ripon 10 days ago.

Bottom weight Too Much Too Young could be in the mix if not turned around too quickly from coming sixth of 15 at Doncaster on Saturday, but catching the eye for each-way value is Nigel Tinkler’s improving gelding, Socialise.

A busy 11-race three-year-old campaign yielded modest results, with a handful of fourth places his best performances, but following a six-month winter break he jumped quickly out of the stalls to land a 0-65 six-furlong sprint on Newcastle’s all-weather track last month.

Suggested best bet: Socialise each-way in the 16:30 at Redcar

He returned to the same venue 17 days ago, and although fifth of 15, he was barely two lengths off the winner and all of the four horses ahead of him were rated much higher than any of his rivals here.

Running on strongly, Socialise was never nearer than at the line, suggesting that he has the stamina to cope with the extra furlong asked of him here, and in the capable hands of his usual rider Rowan Scott, another strong bid can be expected here
