Pontefract best bet: Bulldog Spirit can battle to second season success

Brunch bags Pomfret prize at Pontefract
Only eight runners line up for this testing mile-and-a-half trip, but with less than two betting points separating the top five in the market, we could be in for a thrilling run-in.
15:10 Pontefract: Ben and Mary Hibbert Memorial Handicap (1 mile 4 furlongs)
Of those five principals, only Kittykarma brings a last-time-out success to the starting gate, having won a 15-runner handicap at Ripon a month ago, and she could have more in the tank to exploit her filly’s weight allowance.
The tentative early favourite is Roaring Legend, who rarely misses the frame with his nine career outings yielding no less than six runner-up spots to go with a solitary success over this distance at Salisbury in June.
Damascus Steel and Notimeforanother have also shown consistent form this term, but just about getting Tipstrr’s collective nod is Bulldog Spirit, who is looking for a third career win on his tenth outing.

His latest success came in June at Doncaster, where he had to dig deep in the closing stages to edge a neck clear of Another Run over this distance.
That success was bookended by runner-up spots at Windsor and Goodwood, confirming a consistency that only came under scrutiny when he looked uncharacteristically out of sorts in finishing fifth of five runners at Haydock last time out a couple of weeks ago.
He will be piloted for the first time by the dependable Kevin Stott, who landed us a tasty 13/2 winner on Tarbaan two days ago at Yarmouth and boasts a healthy 18% win rate at Pontefract.
His trainer Charlie Johnston has also enjoyed his infrequent visits to the Yorkshire track, saddling six winners and a further seven each-way places from just 29 runners here.
Suggested bet: Bulldog Spirit in the 15:10 at Pontefract
