Newton Abbot best bet: Up For Appeal has the potential to go the distance

The Tipstrr camp have been taking a look through Wednesday's racecards and have been attracted to this handicap chase at Newton Abbot, where every contender has a decent chance of winning.

15:40 Newton Abbot: Visit attheraces.com Novices' Handicap Chase (2 miles 5 furlongs)

A rare summer jumps meeting will have fans of the obstacles feeling like it's Christmas and there's plenty of contenders for the winners enclosure despite just six coming to post in this handicap chase.

The battle for the favourite tag seems to be between American Gerry and Him Malaya

American Gerry comes into this one in decent shape and Hughie Morrison's gelding has a good relationship with today's jockey Freddie Gingell, coming second last time out over this course-and-distance and he was also in the saddle for a win at Taunton three starts ago.

He likes the course and the ground should be to his liking as all three of his career wins have come on good ground, so it's clear to see why he's well-backed.

Planet Sport Bet ambassador and champion jockey Harry Cobden is back in action aboard Him Malaya, representing Paul Nicholls' yard.

Him Malaya has been a nearly man in recent outings, finishing third in three of his last four outings.

He did win at Wincanton five starts ago and with Cobden in the saddle you can't rule anything out.

However, our good friends at Tipstrr like the look of Up For Appeal and we're opting for Christian Williams' charge.

Last time out he finished fourth over this course-and-distance, behind the reopposing American Gerry, but there should be improvement here given he came into that run fresh.

If he can rekindle the form that he showed last year, when he grabbed a win at Stratford and finished in the first three at Hereford and Worcester, he stands a good chance.

The dependable Jack Tudor is in the saddle for Up For Appeal and he has a good record since April, winning 17 percent of his outings.

At a good price of 5/1, Up For Appeal has the potential to shock the leading pair.

Suggested bet: Up for Appeal in the 15:40 at Newton Abbot
