Newmarket top tip: Bodorgan on course for more improvement under William Buick

Newmarket racecourse in the sun
There’s plenty of quality among this line-up of three-year-olds, and one of Tipstrr’s most popular racing pundits is “banking” on another progressive run from his top tip of the day.
17:55 Newmarket: Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Handicap (1 mile 1 furlong)
Such is the open nature of this one-mile handicap that even the fifth-favourite is as low as 7/2 in places, and while this suggests that betting value might be limited, it does not appear to bode well for the chances of those at the bottom end of the market.
Of those market leaders, Ed Walker’s Crack Shot is currently carrying the favourite’s mantle and he certainly looks a prime contender under Tom Marquand after landing his maiden success at the second attempt at Nottingham in May, before backing that up with an even more eye-catching success at Goodwood a month ago.

Oisin Murphy was aboard Crack Shot in that win but here he finds himself in the saddle of Andrew Balding’s Sudden Ambush, who has enjoyed three wins and two seconds this season and although last of five at Goodwood last month, that run was on unsuitable soft going and he could well bounce back on Newmarket’s faster ground.
Real Gain and Turntable carry similar claims, but we’re going with the selection of Tipstrr’s The Banker, who is looking to live up to his name with the Charles Hills-trained Bodorgan, who won his final race as a two-year-old last October, and has been slowly improving as this season has progressed.
His most promising performance came last time out seven weeks ago, when he ran on strongly to finish third of 13 in a 0-95 handicap over an extended mile at Haydock, suggesting that an earlier challenge might have put him in closer contention.
This slight drop in grade should help boost his chances, as should the presence of William Buick, who is in hot form after landing two tidy back-to-back winners (4/1 and 13/2) on this track yesterday.
Suggested bet: Bodorgan in the 17:55 at Newmarket
