Newmarket best bet: Mighty Ulysses can power his way to straight mile four-timer

Newmarket racecourse
From more than 450 runners on another full Friday racecard, Tipstrr racing pundit Steve Jones has plucked out his solitary Daily Bargain from one of the big races at Newmarket’s Cambridgeshire meeting
15:35 Newmarket: Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Joel Stakes (1 mile)
The early favourite, Maljoom, has a 472-day absence to overcome as he visits this track for the first time, while fellow market leader Chindit has never been at his best at this track and his best runs have been on slower ground than this.
The Gosden yard is in the best form of these stables and they have two entries with Mighty Ulysses looking the strongest under these conditions.
The four-year-old comes here in great shape after dead-heating with the odds-on favourite, Embesto, for first place in the Group 3 Sovereign Stakes at Salisbury last month, a decent event run on good ground over a straight, galloping mile with an uphill finish.

That was the first time Mighty Ulysses had run over a straight mile since July last year, when he easily won the Listed Henry Cecil Stakes on the July course at this venue.
The going was good-firm and he came clear by 1.5 lengths to beat Alflaila, who then went on to advertise the form in no uncertain terms by winning his next four starts (a Listed contest, two Group 3s and a Group 2).
He is now rated 120, which is well above today’s opposition, so the fact that Mighty Ulysses was able to beat him comfortably on level terms under today’s combination of conditions marks the Gosden runner out as the one to beat today, particularly considering his current well-being.
His liking for this venue is further emphasised by his earlier win over today’s course and distance, for which he beat six others by a clear 4.5 lengths to take a novices’ event on good ground early last season.
Under Oisin Murphy, who rode him at Salisbury last time, Mighty Ulysses looks a good bet to make it 3/3 at this venue and 4/4 over a straight mile.
Suggested bet: Mighty Ulysses each-way in the 15:35 at Newmarket

Of the others, Mutasaabeq is another who likes it here, having won at this venue no less than four times in five attempts, with his only defeat coming in the 2,000 Guineas in his 3yo season.
He won this race last year (on good ground) and also the Group 2 bet365 Mile over the same trip by a clear 3-length margin in May this year, so he is a strong contender even though he has run well below par on his last two runs.
Next best bet: Mutasaabeq in the 15:35 at Newmarket
