Newcastle top racing tip: Tathmeen lined up for overdue success at preferred venue

Our partners at Tipstrr have been crunching their numbers to share their most widely-tipped selection from Monday evening’s all-weather meeting at Newcastle.

20:00 Newcastle: Boost Your Acca With BetUK Amateur Jockeys’ Handicap (6 furlongs)

All the early signs point to a strong bid from Noble Captain, who landed two course-distance successes among his first five visits here since the turn of the year, and was not far off the pace when fourth of nine here 10 days ago.

Planet Sport Bet Daily Special: Bet £20+ cash on any runner in the race and if Noble Captain wins by more than 1 length, get a £5 Free Bet

Last-time-out winner Absolute Dream is expected to provide the biggest challenge, although most of his recent experience is over a mile or more, and even that recent success here 15 days ago was over seven furlongs, so there has to be a question mark over this return to an even shorter trip.

Marie’s Jewel and the Antony Brittain-trained Eldeyaar have the ability to have a say in proceedings, but attracting most attention within the Tipstrr camp is the second of Brittain’s runners, Tathmeen, who is a seven-time victor at this venue, albeit winless in 24 outings since a course-distance success here in February last year.

That’s not to say there haven’t been a few near misses along the way, the closest of which came four outings ago last month when he came within a head of the well-backed favourite Fantasy Navigator, just failing to get up after having been cramped for room down the stretch.

Suggested best bet: Tathmeen in the 20:00 at Newcastle

The seasoned nine-year-old was last seen in action here 10 days ago, when he finished a respectable fifth of nine, notably just half a length behind fourth-placed Noble Captain, who is the well-supported market leader here.

Most of the amateur jockeys in this line-up receive a weight allowance, so the five-pound claim of Kevin Skelton is perhaps less significant than the reputation he brings as the brother of professional trainer/jockey team Dan and Harry.

If they can get a decent break from their handy inside draw, then it would be no surprise to see Skelton Jr. and Tathmeen in the mix in the closing stages.
