Newcastle top racing tip: Matty Too looking to bounce back off dropping mark

If we can safely assume that the bottom four in the betting are available at 25/1-plus for a reason, then we're left with the five market leaders, all capable of landing this seven-furlong handicap.

Leap Day has emerged as the bookies’ early favourite after backing up a tidy win at Southwell with another decent display when finishing fourth of ten at the same track a fortnight ago.
He will be hard-pushed, both in the betting and in the race itself, by the ever-improving Sibyl Charm, who showed some spirit after being poorly placed to come within a short head of landing a lower-grade six-furlong sprint at Wolverhampton 13 days ago.

Kalganov and Westmorian both merit serious consideration at around the 5/1 mark, but arguably the most intriguing prospect is the Ed Dunlop-trained five-year-old, Matty Too, who caught the eye in the summer when landing back-to-back successes over this distance on the turf tracks at Yarmouth and Chepstow.
A subsequent rising mark saw him struggle in higher-class company, and he was also below par when tried on the all-weather surfaces of Lingfield and Kempton before Christmas.
He now makes his tapeta debut over Newcastle’s more challenging track, which might help his cause as his mark slides down to just a pound more than for his last win.
Matty Too will have Jack Mitchell in his saddle for the first time, and the jockey/trainer partnership will be hoping to combine in similar fashion to their success in another seven-furlong affair at Kempton on Thursday.
Suggested best bet: Matty Too in the 19:15 at Newcastle
