Newcastle top racing tip: Admiral Nelson eyes victory after quick turnaround

Our partners at Tipstrr have kindly scoured their data to bring us their most widely-tipped selection from the final race on Monday night’s competitive all-weather card at Newcastle.

20:30 Newcastle: Stay Golden With BetMGM Safer Gambling Handicap (1 mile)

It’s easier to see why the bookies are leaning heavily towards Zumaaty to land this one-mile handicap, because Iain Jardine’s six-year-old appears to have so many factors working in his favour.

He returned fresh from a five-month winter break to finish just half a length behind the strongly fancied Moon Over The Sea at Wolverhampton a week ago, keeping on strongly but just unable to get closer than half a length at the line.

He has escaped the wrath of the handicapper and his unchanged mark is further enhanced by the seven-pound claim of Ethan Jones, who has guided five of his previous Newcastle rides into the frame, including a couple of tidy wins.

If the favourite’s short price does not appeal, then there’s been a buzz in the Tipstrr camp for the Peter Niven-trained Admiral Nelson, who makes a rapid turnaround after finishing a somewhat uninspiring ninth of ten at this venue just three days ago.

A largely disappointing turf career earned one unexpected win at Cork as a rank 40/1 outsider last May, since when his best work has been more recently on synthetic tracks, and at Newcastle in particular.

A winner over seven furlongs on his first visit here gave a tasty pre-Christmas bonus to anyone who backed him at his 16/1 SP, and although he has failed to reach that level of performance in four subsequent attempts here, he should be able to make his presence felt in this company.

His mark has slipped back to just a pound more than for that December victory, and he is also reunited with usual jockey Cam Hardie, who was not in the saddle for Friday’s outing but has been aboard for all of his previous visits here.

Suggested best bet: Admiral Nelson each-way in the 20:30 at Newcastle
