Newcastle racing tip: Four-time course winner Vindobala can rekindle former glories

There’s a few at the top of the betting who have every right to fancy their chances here, not least the early favourite Cusack, who is a four-time winner here and has produced numbers of 1431 over this very trip in his last four outings since mid-September.

Most likely to be breathing down his neck is the strongly fancied Urban Road, who has won three of his last eight outings, two of which were over this course and distance and he can bounce back after having to settle for second place here last time out 25 days ago.

Of the outsiders My Honey B looks well-priced if she can reproduce the form that landed a hat-trick of wins in the summer, while Hostelry is another whose two recent wins might be a better measure than when she disappointed after being poorly placed last time out.

Beyond all those, the word on Tipstrr street is that Sam England’s unpredictable mare, Vindobala, is ready to punch above her weight after a few below-par showings.

She won over this course and distance a year ago, and kicked off 2023 with another success at the same venue, but she has occasionally proved temperamental since, and indeed twice refused to race, the second of which was at Musselburgh three outings ago in July.

She has only appeared once since late August, and was again slowly away before rallying late to finish a respectable fourth of 11 at the venue.

That was over seven furlongs and the way she kept on six weeks ago suggests she will prefer this longer trip, always assuming that jockey Tom Eaves can coax her out of the stalls in a timely manner.
