Newcastle racing top tip: Professor Tickle overlooked at a juicy price

Eleven runners will go to post for the 1830 at Newcastle on Thursday evening with Marco Botti’s course and distance winner, Magic Fluke, topping the market.

He came on leaps and bounds to record a winning nursery debut here in November and followed that up with a second-place finish a month later, which was a good run.

Hand Jive has been well-backed and is second in the market at the time of writing, which is surprising considering he’s managed no better than fourth in his fledgling career.

Flying Fletcher showed good pace and timing when he flew from the back of the field to record a fifth-place finish in his last run but he didn’t have the stamina to maintain that push.

Distance winner Professor Tickle is 10/1 at the time of writing and you could argue that’s too big a price as he’s one of the entrants with previous.

He produced a career-best when winning at Lingfield earlier this month and he’s been a consistent performer, finishing in the top two in three of four.

Keen Interest, Reprised, Ravensbourne and Havana Smoke are all similarly priced in the middle of the market. They all go for top yards in good form so could pose a threat.

It’s worth noting that both William Haggas and Daniel Tudhope have a strong record at Newcastle, winning 29% and 20% of saddled horses respectively.

Love Yours is the rank outsider but you could make a speculative case for the lightly-raced maiden who will don blinkers on his first run for new trainer Gemma Tutty.

Plenty of chances in this young field but Professor Tickle is usually there or thereabouts and looks capable of further improvement.
