Bernie The Bear can strike at Newcastle and claim victory in the Best Racing Odds Guaranteed At BetMGM Apprentice Handicap.

Three times a winner last year for Richard Fahey, the gelding has been knocking on the door for new trainer Linda Perratt with a couple of placed efforts at this track.

Perratt and claimer Tommie Jakes have already teamed up to good effect with two winners this month and this looks another good chance for them to strike.

A €325,000 breeze-up purchase for the powerful KHK Racing camp, the son of Blue Point is a half-brother to five winners, including multiple Group One scorer Palace Pier.

Grant Wood was a 20/1 shot when getting off the mark at the 11th attempt at Southwell but can prove that was no fluke in the Find More Big Deals At BetUK Handicap.

There was a lot to like about the way he ran on strongly to get the better of in-form favourite Counsel and Paul Midgley’s five-year-old had shown ability when with Johnny Murtagh in Ireland at the start of his career.

The Liegeman was a little disappointing when wearing cheekpieces for the first time last month but is worth another chance in the Always Gamble Responsibly With BetUK Handicap on his previous progressive form.
