Newcastle each-way tip: Bluebells Boy ready to blossom after winter break

The all-weather racing action carries on into the evening with an excellent card at Newcastle, where this competitive six-furlong sprint throws up a host of betting possibilities.

The clear favourite is unsurprisingly Blue Collar Lad, who will take all the beating if able to reproduce the performance that eased him three lengths clear of his seven rivals at Wolverhampton five days ago.

The handicapper has been quick to get on his case, however, and a five-pound penalty after the quick turnaround makes his short price less appealing than the likes of Captain Wentworth, who has had some near misses among his 16 fruitless outings, and could be poised to build on last week’s close-up second at Chelmsford.

With several bookies offering four places, there’s plenty of decent outsider options to consider, but we’re going to join forces with a broad swath of Tipstrr’s each-way specialists who have gravitated towards the only runner in the field yet to have had a run-out in 2024.

Suggested best bet: Bluebells Boy each-way in the 20:00 at Newcastle

It’s been 12 runs and 15 months since Bluebells Boy made his only acquaintance with the winner’s enclosure, when he won over this distance at Chelmsford in December 2022, so hopes are high that his three-month break will have recharged the batteries.

Daryll Holland’s five-year-old was last seen being ridden too aggressively too soon at Wolverhampton in November, meaning he would have romped home in a half-mile race, but he then inevitably weakened over the final two furlongs, eventually finishing seventh.

He runs here off a career-low mark with the reins passed to Mia Nicholls, whose five-pound allowance can only help the cause, not to mention the Newcastle track has proved to be a happy hunting ground for jockey and trainer alike on their limited visits here.
