Newcastle best bets (1700): Dingle spot on for a bold bid on return to preferred mile trip

Newcastle Racecourse
Newcastle has a full evening of all-weather racing to enjoy, and this handicap over a mile should provide one of the most competitive of the eight races on the card.

Horse racing pundit Steve Jones, who runs his CD Systems Daily Bargain service on Tipstrr, has his expert eye on Julie Camacho’s six-year-old, Dingle, who should be spot-on following his return to action on New Year’s Day.
That pipe-opener should have blown away the cobwebs after a 192-day break in readiness for a return to his optimum mile trip and it also produced the additional benefit of dropping his handicap by a couple of pounds.
He now runs off a mark of 80, his lowest since his last win, which was an easy one and a half length win in a 10-runner 0-82 handicap over this course and distance in March last year.
Always travelling well, he cruised to the front with two furlongs to go and when the favourite, Roudemental, came to challenge him, he quickened again and readily went clear.

Roudemental had also won a 13-runner 0-82 over this c/d on his previous visit, to advertise the latest c/d performance of Dingle even further.
That success was only five outings ago, so he has been lightly raced since and he will be fresher than his two main market rivals, Hale End and Enola Grey, who have both been busy in recent months.
That impressive win was the last time Dingle has raced over a mile on tapeta and he looks a good bet to repeat the feat now that he is race fit and back down to the grade in which he achieved it.
Suggested bet: Dingle in the 17:00 at Newcastle

Of the others, it is no surprise to see Hale End also near the top of the market on the back of his recent win over this course and distance, which was achieved very easily by two and a quarter lengths from ten rivals rated up to 75.
Always prominent, the four-year-old hit the front at the furlong pole and only had to be pushed out by today’s rider, Clifford Lee, to win by a margin that could have been wider had the rider wished.
He should have no problem stepping back into Class four company and he is the justifiable favourite, representing an in-form yard from a very handy stall two draw.
