Newcastle best bet (1930): Absolute Dream shaping up to defy double-digit price

There’s a decent evening card to enjoy at Newcastle on Tuesday evening, and this seven-furlong handicap sprint could well provide race-goers with one of the best races of the night.

Brother Dave appears to justify his favourite tag after securing five straight frame finishes in as many weeks, culminating in a couple of tidy wins at Southwell.

His hat-trick bid is likely to be most seriously challenged by his stablemate Rockin Rosa, a course-and-distance winner who returned from a five-month break with a third of 10 at Southwell that was all the more creditable for having to overcome a sluggish break.

There’s plenty more that are worthy of consideration in this wide-open handicap, but there’s been a buzz in the Tipstrr camp for Richard Fahey’s capable eight-year-old gelding, Absolute Dream.

Suggested best bet: Absolute Dream each-way in the 19:30 at Newcastle

An accomplished performer on the turf, the most recent of his ten career wins was as a 12/1 shot a month ago at Southwell, his first success on an all-weather track, where he saw off eight decent rivals, beating Urban Dandy and Cubanista by a short head and a neck respectively.

More recently, he performed with similar credit over six furlongs at this venue three weeks ago, running on strongly to dead-heat for second behind the highly-rated Tathmeen.

Running off the same mark, his burden will be reduced by the seven-pound claim of jockey Ethan Tindall, and that might be decisive in putting him in the mix for at least one of the four each-way places that are readily available.
