Musselburgh racing top tip: Theirshegoes looking to progress over shorter trip

A dozen runners line up for this three-mile handicap, but Tipstrr pundit Steve Jones expects a couple of capable long-distance hurdlers to stand out from the crowd.
15:20 Musselburgh: Maxrecycle Handicap Hurdle (2 miles 7 furlongs 180 yards)
Theirshegoes represents the in-form Sandy Thomson/Ryan Mania team, whose last five finishers have returned figures of 12122, and who won this race last year with Faithfulflyer, a similarly lightly-raced type.
Theirshegoes has much better form going into this race than Faithfulflyer had when he won, having run much better than her finishing position suggests in a higher-graded Class 4 handicap over 26 furlongs at Kelso late last month.

She travelled very well throughout that longer trip and only faded in the closing stages when stamina became an issue over the last couple of flights.
He was ridden by a conditional jockey that day, so the return to the saddle of Ryan Mania is a big plus, as is this drop in grade off two pounds lower and this more suitable three-mile trip.
Last month’s Kelso run came after a break of 165 days, so she is entitled to come on for it, which she almost certainly will, given the current form of the yard.

Elsewhere, Rickety Gate is the right favourite on course form, and he should go well again following placed efforts at Perth (three miles on good) and over this course-and-distance (on good-soft) on his last two starts.
The most recent of those was his third of 13 over this trip in a higher-graded Class 4 handicap, which came after a break of 137 days, so he is entitled to come on again for it.
His previous visit, in this month last year, saw him win a Class 4 over this c/d (on good-soft), so he clearly likes these conditions and looks a solid favourite off an unchanged mark.
