Ludlow racing top tip: Nathanael Greene to confirm Flat racing stamina on hurdling debut

A limited Monday racecard kicks off with this intriguing maiden hurdle at Ludlow, where one of Tipstrr’s leading pundits has his expert eye on a proven Flat performer making his bow over obstacles.

12:35 Ludlow: Racing TV Club Day Maiden Hurdle (1 mile 7 furlongs 169 yards)

A four-year-old bay gelding who moved to Alastair Ralph’s yard from William Haggas in August, Nathanael Greene is sired by Nathaniel (IRE) and out of My Special J's (USA), a lineage that suggests good staying potential.

On the Flat, Nathanael Greene has shown promise, staying up to an extended two miles and placing in his last two starts. His transfer from Haggas for indicates a change in direction towards jumps racing, possibly aiming to capitalise on his undoubted stamina.

His recent form on the turf includes a second place at Goodwood over 14 furlongs in heavy conditions and a third at Haydock over two miles, again on testing ground, both times showing resilience and consistency.

While he hasn't won since July 2022 at Haydock, Nathanael Greene has maintained his form, suggesting he's a reliable competitor.

Transitioning to hurdles, he could bring his stamina and experience from flat racing to bear. His pedigree and proven ability over longer distances could give him an edge in the hurdles, especially on softer ground which he seems to handle well.

In summary, Nathanael Greene's switch to hurdling under Alastair Ralph's guidance could prove fruitful. His stamina and consistency on the Flat, combined with his new training focus, make him a noteworthy contender in this hurdling debut at Ludlow, which is over a shorter trip than some of his flat outings.

We’ll be very interestedn to see how he adapts his flat racing prowess to the demands of hurdling, particularly over the longer distances.
