Lingfield top racing tip: Market leaders should watch out for Flying Panther

There are plenty of course-and-distance winners among this 11-runner field, and one in particular appears to have plenty in his favour on his first run for a new trainer.

If the betting market is a reliable measure, then we should be in for a two-horse race between Cephalus and Split Elevens, who are currently jostling for the favourite tag at around the 3/1 mark.
However, the former is winless in eight outings since completing a four-timer in early 2022, while the latter has gone ten races without visiting the winners’ enclosure, and although both are capable of winning on their day, they carry little value at that price.
However, a benefit of the principals’ short odds is that the value of the remainder of the field is enhanced beyond expectations, with Recuerdame and Edmund Ironside catching the eye after landing recent successes over this very trip, while top-weighted Roscioli is also rated to produce a challenge.

It is another course-distance winner who gets our final nod, however, with the lightly-raced Flying Panther having won on his last visit to Lingfield in July, since when he backed up a close-up second at Kempton with a victory at the same venue a couple of weeks later in September.
His two most recent outings were less fruitful, but they were in 0-65 company and all but one of the horses to beat him were rated higher than any he will be facing here as his own dropping mark allows him to squeeze into this lower-grade handicap.
Having recently left Tom Ward to join the Newland/Insole yard, his stable debut will be an interesting watch, and any horse piloted for the first time by all-weather specialist Rossa Ryan (who is one win away from breaking the 200-mark for the season) has to be taken seriously.
