Lingfield racing tip (1224): Chola Empire primed for success from low mark

Lingfield Park
Horse racing expert Steve Jones has weighed in on the first race of the day at Lingfield on Sunday where he expects Chola Empire to challenge.
1224 Win £2,000,000 with BetMGM’s Golden Goals Handicap
It’s no surprise to see Dayman at the head of the early market on the back of his eye-catching effort at Kempton earlier this month.
Completely ignored in the market following a series of heavy defeats, he was having just his third run for Dominic Ffrench Davis following his transfer from David Loughnane in April.
He travelled particularly well at the back of the field and, ridden with plenty of confidence, he was still there as the leaders reached the 2f pole.
That contest was a higher-graded Class 4 handicap run over today’s 7f trip, so a similar effort would give him a good chance off just 2 lbs higher.
Clearly handicapped to strike down in Class 5 off of 75, he looks sure to go close, though this very sharp track might just catch him out once again and a good value bet to beat him Is another of the four-year-olds, Chola Empire.
Chola Empire is a real specialist over 7f on the all-weather, particularly on Polytrack.
His all-weather 7f record is 1324123238 and, within that, his 7f Polytrack record is 132223.
Down 2 lbs and in an easier handicap, Chola Empire looks to have been underestimated in the early market, especially considering his exploits under these conditions in higher grade.
Fresh from a short break, he is his Newmarket trainer’s only runner of the day and connections have re-introduced the hood he wore briefly on turf as a three-year-old. He ran very well in a 0-93 Class 3 when wearing it for the first time.
The four-year-old looks to have been lined up to take advantage of his lowest all-weather mark since he easily won a Class 4 over 7f on Tapeta early this year.
Suggested bet: Chola Empire to win the 1224 at Lingfield
