Lingfield each-way tip: Savannah Smiles eyes up happy return to preferred venue

There’s some decent all-weather action lined up at Lingfield on Friday afternoon, and this six-furlong handicap has nine sprinters lining up to provide one of the most competitive races on the card.

15:47 Lingfield: BetUK: Home of the Acca-Fenwa Handicap (6 furlongs)

Sassy Redhead catches the eye as a worthy-looking favourite winning after over this course and distance in December, although she subsequently failed to land the odds when runner-up over the same trip here nine days ago.

She is better drawn than when beaten that day by the reopposing Nubough, who has to pay a four-pound penalty for that success, but should still attract some support as his current price of 8/1-plus, while Vitalline could be ready to build on four straight frame finishes.

Another course-distance winner Miss Moonshine cannot be ruled out after winning here two races ago in December, and although she loses the benefit of that jockey’s 7lb claim, she should have every chance under Hollie Doyle.

However, our final each-way nod goes in the direction of another promising filly in the shape of Savannah Smiles, who is winless in nine outings since landing her last race for Tom Ward over this very trip in June.

Following a three-month winter break, she has been been showing signs of progress for Grace Harris, bookending a sub-par run on Wolverhampton’s tapeta surface with two much more promising performances over this course and distance.

She finishes a close-up third here in early January, and was an even closer runner-up just seven days ago, when she came within a neck of Red Walls, who was four pounds better off.

She remains kindly treated and has at least a half-stone advantage over her eight rivals, and that becomes a significant 10lb when Callum Hutchinson’s claim is factored in.

Suggested best bet: Savannah Smiles in the 15:47 at Lingfield
