Kempton racing tip: Syd Hosie can bring the best out of Call Me Rocky on stable debut

Knight Salute passes Kempton test for Cheltenham
Ten runners line up for the last race on Monday’s Kempton card, and Tipstrr racing pundit Steve Jones believes the signs are good for one of the outsiders on his first outing since switching trainers.
15:35 Kempton: Pertemps Network Group Handicap Hurdle (3 miles 100 yards)
Trainer Syd Hosie has a good record with horses acquired from other yards, including Goodwood Cup winner Temporize, (acquired from Charlie Johnston) in September, as well as Hunting Percival (from Stuart Penny) and Astroman (Mark Walford) earlier in the year.
Even more significant are the runners with whom he has won with first-time-out after taking them from other yards, like Plenty Of Time, who won just last month on her first run since leaving Gay Kelleway, and Corporal Jackjones, who won in June on his first start since leaving Nigel Twiston-Davies.
Significant, as far as this race is concerned, is the win of Latin Verse just last Friday, on debut for Hosie on his first run since leaving Milton Harris, who also trained Call Me Rocky before today’s stable debut for Hosie.
On his penultimate start for Harris, as recently as September, Call Me Rocky finished a close third of seven in a higher-graded Class 2 handicap over this distance at Uttoxeter.
He ran off today’s mark of 112 that day, and this time he has the additional help of his decent claimer’s three-pound allowance.
A real specialist over two miles on sharp tracks, Call Me Rocky wouldn’t need to improve much on his penultimate start to win on his debut for Hosie, whose record with new recruits says the six-year-old has a leading chance.
Suggested bet: Call Me Rocky in the 15:35 at Kempton
- Tip advised by Steve Jones who runs CD Systems Daily Bargain on Tipstrr
Of the others, Small Bad Bob must go on the shortlist following his recent 3.75-length win over two miles at Plumpton because both the well-held runner-up (Kaleb) and third (Arqoob) subsequently filled the first two places in a more valuable Class 3 handicap at Sandown.
That was only Small Bad Bob’s second run for Chris Gordon and, even off his revised mark of 109, the eight-year-old is still 12 pounds lower than he was last year, so he still has plenty of scope now that new connections have him in this sort of form.
Next best bet: Small Bad Bob in the 15:35 at Kempton
