Kempton racing best bet: Well-backed course-distance winner is Top Secret

Kempton Park
Tipstrr racing pundit Steve Jones has saved his solitary best-bet Daily Bargain for the evening meeting at Kempton, where he expects a previous course-distance winner to prevail.
19:00 Kempton: Unibet More Extra Place Races Handicap (1 mile)
Unusually for an 11-strong field of mainly older one-mile all-weather handicappers, only two of them have ever won here before at any distance, and one of those two course winners hasn’t raced at all since 2021.
The one who stands out is Top Secret who boasts an excellent record when fresh, which bodes well for his return to this track following a three-month break.
From his four runs when returning from breaks of this length or more, he has recorded figures of 222, never beaten more than a length in any of those three handicaps, the last two of which were Class 2 events over a mile on flat tracks.

The last three of just six attempts on synthetic surfaces came at this venue in the latter stages of last year and he was beaten by only one of the 27 rivals he faced, recording figures of 211.
The latest of those runs was over today’s trip and he beat nine rivals off a mark of 82 to win comfortably under today’s rider, Lewis Edmunds, despite coming out of a wide draw in stall 9.
His effort needs marking up because he managed to get across and race prominently the whole way, kicking on at the top of the home straight and never looking in any danger thereafter.
The only runner to have beaten Top Secret in three strong handicaps at this track during October and November last year was Mount Athos, who is now rated 105 after winning two Class 2 handicaps at this venue since then, off significantly higher marks than when beating Top Secret.
Top Secret won’t be meeting anything of the calibre of Mount Athos in this Class 3 contest and, given his fine record fresh and his excellent course record, he looks an attractive bet under his dual course winning jockey.
Suggested bet: Top Secret in the 19:00 at Kempton

Of the others, the three-year-old Urban Sprawl will be looking for revenge on Talis Evolvere, who beat him by a neck in a Class 3 handicap over a mile at Wolverhampton earlier this month.
Urban Sprawl ran within a length of the winner in Class 3 company on his only previous visit to this track (under this rider from stall 10 just a few weeks ago) and is now only two pounds higher with a much better draw.
The in-form and consistent three-year-old colt looks set to go well back here under Franny Norton and he can reverse his neck defeat at the hands of his Wolverhampton conqueror, who has been installed as a short-priced favourite for this event.
Next best bet: Urban Sprawl in the 19:00 at Kempton
