Kempton racing tip (1900): Back Batal Dubai to hit the front and stay there

A small field of six runners will go to post for the 1900 at Kempton on Wednesday evening, which on the face of it looks the most intriguing race of the evening.

Rossa Ryan will take the reigns on the bookie's favourite Batal Dubai who won twice on the all-weather in 2023 at Chelmsford and Newcastle.

Course-and-distance winner Chipstead is saddled by Roger Teal and made a return to form when winning here in December and although he didn’t back that up at Lingfield, he went well and recorded a respectable fifth of 10.

Fivethousandtoone is worth keeping an eye on as he recently finished ahead of Batal Dubai at Newcastle and when healthy, he’s regularly earned place money.

Blind Beggar was available at 14/1 as of 9 am on Wednesday which is a tempting price given previous efforts.

This step up in grade will be a challenge but the winner of three of 11 runs in 2023 is another one who often makes the frame. While his wins did come over five furlongs, he’s going almost as well over six.

Home City and The X O prop up the market. The former has raced exclusively at Meydan until the last time out and has to show more, while the latter would need to improve on his most recent effort in similar company.

Batal Dubai’s most recent run after a short break was very positive, and the run is bound to benefit him.

The most positive aspect of his win was being able to hit the front early and make the running, which is something he could look to do again in this small field, potentially even pulling clear.
