Kempton racing top tip: Back classy hurdler First Lord De Cuet to find his best over fences

Jacamar was victorious at Kempton on Boxing Day
Kempton has survived the elements and we expect First Lord De Cuet to embrace the conditions as he gets off the mark over fences.

Kempton passed an inspection early this morning but the conditions may have played a part in the withdrawal of Bobhopeornohope and Switch Hitter, leaving us with seven runners.
Switch Hitter may have been a contender having gone well last time out for in-form trainer Paul Nichols and dropping in grade here.
Joe Tizzard’s Killer Kane tops the market having won this race last year. He seems to have benefited from a breathing operation and went well last time out.
Highstakesplayer is second in the betting but it’s too early to pass judgement on the price. He looked like a prospect in back-to-back wins at Hereford but hasn’t been seen in over a year.
First Lord De Cuet has found plenty of success over hurdles in his career but has yet to get off the mark over fences.
He was a regular in the frame over fences last season but was pulled up and unseated his rider in his first two starts this campaign, before a second-place finish at Market Rasen last time out.

Iconic Muddle is next and while he is bottom-weight, he’s another we haven’t seen much of lately.
His second-place finish at Wincanton on heavy ground last time out was a good effort. He stayed on well but this will be his second run in nine months and represents a step up in trip.
Black Gerry and Francky Du Berlais look tempting each-way bets as the former showed plenty of winning form last season and isn’t out of his depth if he can rediscover it.
Title chasing Sean Bowen is having a fine jumps season and he’s a profitable bet at Kempton and despite Francky Du Berlais’ recent success, he goes from a lower mark here.
Plenty of chances here but First Lord De Cuet was such a winning machine over hurdles and he showed he was back to his best over fences last time out.
He can surely only hit the crossbar so many times so we’ll take him to get off the mark at Kempton on Friday.
Suggested bet: Back First Lord De Cuet to win the 15:40 at Kempton
