Kempton each-way racing tip (1715): Blue Shark can hit ground running after summer break

Our partners at Tipstrr have run their numbers over Sunday’s National Hunt meeting at Kempton to offer us their most popular pick in the very last race of the afternoon.

17:15 Kempton: Racing TV Handicap Handicap Hurdle (2 miles 5 furlongs)

The early-morning withdrawal of the well-fancied Decorated has recalibrated the market, with Ben Pauling’s Awaythelad taking over the favourite mantle, while Oscars Moonshine will be looking to hit the ground running after rounding off last season with a tidy hurdle win at Wincanton.

Fellow market leader Shallow River is race-fit after a busy summer culminating in a close-up second at Newton Abbot three weeks ago, while proven performer Presenting Pete won at Uttoxeter in August, and is the sort to bounce back from a less impressive run last time out a month ago.

At this stage of the season, races do not always follow market trends, and Breaking Waves could outrun his odds after an encouraging finish to last season, but catching the eye of Tipstrr’s each-way specialists is Jonjo O’Neill’s Blue Shark who is another looking to build on last term’s significant progress.

Four of his five straight wins between November 2022 and February this year were won by less than a length, indicating his ability to dig in after the final hurdle, and he returned from a two-month spring break to visit Southwell’s winning enclosure after another one-length success in May.

A disappointing showing at Uttoxeter in June prompted a four-month summer lay-off, from which he returns to good ground here over his optimum trip.

O’Neill jr resumes his place in the saddle, and the father–son partnership is on hot form having teamed up to produce two victories and five runners-up from their last nine efforts, including Royal Rhythm’s 5/1 success at Carlisle three days ago.

Suggested bet: Blue Shark each-way in the 17:15 at Kempton
