Kempton best bet: Drop in class to suit Treacherous at preferred venue

Age is just a number, and racing pundit Steve Jones, who runs CD Systems on Tipstrr, believes the old man in this field will relish a drop in class to outrun the younger pretenders here.

20:00 Kempton: Try Unibet’s Improved Bet Builder Handicap (6 furlongs)

We’ll discuss the favourite in due course, but one who looks a good-value bet to challenge him is the veteran, Treacherous, who loves it at Kempton and who makes a rare appearance in Class 5 company.

All ten of his runs so far this year have been in higher grade than this (Class 4 up to Class 2) and he has shown on several occasions that he can more than hold his own at a higher level, winning a Class 4 at Newbury and going very close in another at Windsor.

Planet Sport Bet: Bet £20+ cash on any runner in the race and if Treacherous finishes in the first 3 places, get a £5 Free Bet!

This will be the first time he has raced on polytrack so far this year, so it’s worth noting that this has been the surface on which he has enjoyed most success over the years.

A prolific winner and a six-furlong specialist, the nine-year-old has recorded 11 of his 13 wins over this distance and he is a seven-time winner at this favoured venue, with five of those coming over this very trip.

He might not quite be the horse he used to be, but then he shouldn’t need to be in order to win a 0-75, the lowest-graded race he has contested here since he was a five-year-old.

He still possesses more than enough ability to win around his favoured track down at this level, and his penultimate outing, which saw him run within 1.5l of the winner (half a length off the places) in a 0-87 at Windsor (off 2lbs higher) strongly suggests he is in the form to take advantage of this drop in class.

Suggested bet: Treacherous in the 20:00 at Southwell

As mentioned above, it’so surprise to see Nogo's Dream heading the early market, as he arrives in good shape, having placed in each of his last two runs, the first of which was over this course and distance last month.

On that occasion, he finished a never-nearer  third of 11 behind a front pair who were up at the front the whole way with the winner making all, while Nogo's Dream easily the best of those who tried to come from off the pace, so his effort needs marking up.

On the back of that run, he went to the Wolverhampton Tapeta venue a couple of weeks later and finished runner-up of nine over this trip , and given that he had a wide draw and raced a bit too keenly, he

kept going very well after trying to make all.

Next best bet: Nogo’s Dream in the 20:00 at Kempton
