Kelso racing tip (1520): Destiny Is All to challenge favourite Jet Legs

Horse racing aficionado Steve Jones is back to tackle the 1520 Chairman’s Cup Handicap Chase at Kelso on Sunday.

1520 Chairman’s Cup Handicap Chase

Jet Legs is the right favourite, and he deserves plenty of respect on the back of his very game win at Newcastle just before Christmas.

The front pair in that contest pulled well clear of the well-backed favourite, and the runner-up is a lightly raced type now rated 125, so the form looks decent.

It was only Jet Legs’ third run over fences, and he had been backed into to favourite for his previous run, so he is seen as a potentially useful chaser.

He was a Class 2 winner over hurdles over 26f on soft ground at this venue, so this set of conditions will suit him, and he is at the right end of the handicap.

But one who can beat him today is one of the other seven-year-olds, Destiny Is All, who comes here on the back of a solid 3rd/7 over three miles on soft ground at Ayr last month.

Destiny Is All likes it at this venue, where he is bidding to extend his unbeaten record over fences to 3/3 today.

His most recent course win, which came under today’s rider last October, saw him take a 26f handicap (on good-soft) beating the useful Half Shot with the pair pulling 7l clear.

The quicker they go, the better his chance will be, and a sign of positive intent is the introduction of a visor today, to replace his usual cheekpieces.

When he wore those for the first time, he put in a much-improved performance and went very close to winning a Class 3 at Carlisle, so the chances are that the new visor will also bring out a bit extra from him today.

He looks a good bet at this favoured venue in a race in which several of the runners have questions to answer at present.

Suggested bet: Back Destiny Is All to win the 15:20 at Kelso
